Firefighter Apprenticeship Information Sheet
Overview:
A Firefighter Apprenticeship provides hands-on training and sponsored education for individuals interested in pursuing a career as a firefighter. Apprentices gain valuable experience while working alongside experienced professionals.
Program Highlights:
- On-the-Job Training: Work directly with fire crews responding to emergencies
- Classroom Instruction: Learn fire science, emergency medical procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols
- Fire Academy: Upon completion of EMT-B with National Licensure
Entry Requirements:
- Minimum age (usually 18 years)
- Valid driver’s license
- Physically fit and ready for action
- Must live within the McHenry County area
Skills Developed:
- Firefighting techniques and safety
- Emergency medical response
- Teamwork and communication
- Problem-solving under pressure
